Photokina report
Compact and light enough to easily take on trips or to events, the Olympus C-70 Zoom is nevertheless a heavyweight in the resolution category. Perfect for ambitious, quality-conscious users, it produces 7.1 million pixel results that are fit for commercial use. By combining its 5x optical zoom and 6x digital zoom, this camera delivers 30x magnification power for frame-filling shots, even of distant stadium performers or far-away action on the pitch. Whatever the motif, extensive manual control options and special features let users fully express their creative vision. A real plus is that photos can be checked and enjoyed on the large 2.0 inch sunshine LCD - even in bright sunlight.
Olympus C70zoom - Metal body
In addition to still images, the Olympus Camedia C-70 Zoom enables the recording of short movies with sound in TV-quality at 25 frames per second. All these features are perfectly protected by a robust titanium-coloured, metal body. The compact C-70 Zoom has much to tempt the enthusiastic hobby photographer. Registering high on the resolution scale with its 7.1 million pixels, it also scores exceptionally well in the zoom category. The bright 5x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 38-190mm on a 35mm camera, f2.8-4.8) combines with a 6x digital zoom for 30x magnification power. This impressive performance is ideal for getting closer to the subject - such as on a nature hike, or picking out a favourite player on the field. And because of this camera's great native resolution, the digitally enlarged images will still be remarkable. Picture quality is optimised through incorporation of TruePic TURBO, which boosts contrast and colours for even more lifelike results. Moreover, it significantly increases processing speed.
Olympus Camedia C70 Zoom - Settings
Photographers enjoy immense creative freedom with this compact model. For example, manual control of the aperture and shutter speed lets users work with the light to achieve their own personal look. Many other settings, such as white balance and auto-bracketing, are additionally adjustable, while a host of precision metering systems guarantee optimum image results with the minimum of fuss. Recording short movie sequences of sporting action or fast-moving subjects, like wildlife, is also very easy. All it takes is a turn of the dial and the scene is saved at 25 fps in VGA or QVGA resolution. Further artistic opportunities are possible with the Super Macro mode, which enables shots from an incredibly close 2cm away. In order to ensure extended shooting capabilities, this model comes with the powerful new 1230mAh rechargeable battery pack LI-12B.
