Nikon Coolpix 5100
There is a Nikon Coolpix digital compact camera on the market, but at this moment only for the Japanese and Canadian market. Then new Coolpix 5100 is a lightweight digital camera with slim dimensions, 5.1-megapixel performance and surprisingly simple operation. Building on the success and capabilities of the previously released Coolpix 4100, it features the same stylish grip for handling comfort and an enhanced Graphic User Interface (GUI), which displays easy-to-see menus on a bright, adjustable1.6-inch TFT LCD monitor. All controls are placed on the back of the camera for convenient access. Common with several current-release cameras in the Nikon's range, the Coolpix 5100 has the advantage of 14.5MB of internal memory.
Nikon Coolpix 5100 - SD memory card
This allows the user to shoot pictures - or even short video clips - when there's no SD memory card inserted, or to copy shots between the internal memory and SD cards as desired. Like all other models in the popular Coolpix series, the Coolpix 5100 has been designed for simplicity of operation and increased versatility, without compromising either the fun of spontaneous picture-taking or the quality of the picture. The 5100 features 15 problem-solving Scene Modes, four of which offer a Scene Assistance function. These do away with most of the settings preparation when shooting in common situations, delivering quality results when taking shots ranging from sunsets to fireworks, to portraits. Users can also record movies with sound, preserving special moments in a much more expressive way.
Nikon 5100 - Matrix metering system
The Coolpix 5100 also employs Nikon's exclusive 256-segment Matrix metering system, designed to correctly expose even the most complex of scenes, automatically. This technology, evolved from more than twenty years of development in a range of award-winning SLR cameras, assures the Coolpix user of the best possible exposures to produce clear, exciting pictures. With a high-quality 3x optical Zoom-Nikkor lens and 4x digital zoom, the Coolpix 5100 gives users tremendous compositional flexibility. The Coolpix 5100 makes it easy for the user to zoom in close on a single subject or person, or zoom out to take group shots and landscapes. The handy Macro mode can be used as close as 4cm and opens up a whole new world of photographic possibilities, enabling miniature objects to fill the frame. With home printers rapidly growing in popularity, the Coolpix 5100 is equipped with the latest PictBridge compatible interface, enabling direct connection to a wide range of third party printers without the need for a computer. Thanks to the high resolution 5.1-megapixel sensor and sharp Nikon optics, prints can be successfully created up to A3 size. The quality of the camera's images makes it a simple matter to hand the completed memory card to one of hundreds of digital mini-labs to enjoy satisfying full photographic lab-quality prints on long-lasting photo paper.
Nikon 5100 camera - Five Colour options
A range of other features make shooting more fun. Five Colour options comprising Standard colour, Vivid colour, Black-and-white, Sepia, and Cyanotype can be used to achieve creative results. A handy AF-assist illuminator function makes it easier to achieve sharp focus when shooting in poor light. A useful Blur Warning function alerts users of shots compromised by camera shake, giving them the choice to record them or not.
Nikon Coolpix 5100 - Rechargeable batteries
The Coolpix 5100 is also compatible with a wide range of rechargeable and disposable batteries, including inexpensive, readily available alkaline batteries. There's also an AC adapter available as an optional accessory. Like all Nikon Coolpix cameras, the camera is supplied with a multi-voltage charger; with the 5100 are also two rechargeable nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries. The new-generation power circuitry in the Coolpix 5100 enables more than 250 shots in normal use between charges - a truly convenient cost-saving, go-anywhere power solution. For underwater applications, or where harsh environments complicate the care of the camera, the Coolpix 5100 can be secured in the optional accessory housing WP-CP1. This allows full operational control of the camera down to depths of 40 metres.
