Fujifilm set a trend with the Fujifilm F10: digital compact cameras with a high ISO sensitivity. The brand has gone one step further with the recently introduced Fujifilm FinePix F30 digital camera. The maximum sensitivity has been raised to ISO 3200, which was previously unheard of in a digital compact camera like this one. This breakthrough was made possible by the 6 Megapixel Super CCD HR image sensor, already the sixth generation and the Real Photo Processor 2.

Fuji FinePix F30 - High sensitivity
The Fujifilm FinePix F30 is primarily aimed at the ordinary consumer. It is an easy to operate digital compact camera. The high sensitivity is very important for the typical user of the Fujifilm F30. Many photos are taken at parties, or indoors. Who hasn't seen the murky results that this can produce? Of course, flashes help, but only to a certain extent. Due to the high sensitivity, you will need to use the flash less often and this will give you more natural looking pictures. If you need to use the flash, background light still plays an important role thanks to the high sensitivity of the sensor. The pictures will then look much better.

Fujifilm F-30 - Super CCD image sensor
To achieve this high sensitivity, Fujifilm has improved the image sensor. On the Super CCD, the pixels do not have the usual square shape but are hexagonal. By placing them in a honeycomb formation, the pixels can receive much more light than a traditional image sensor. This makes the pixels more sensitive and they catch dim light more quickly as there is just more surface.

Fujifilm F30 - Real Photo Processor
Another important factor is the processor as the Fujifilm FinePix F30 has the second generation Fujifilm Real Photo Processor. This processor determines to a large extent how the signal is changed into an ordinary picture. The Real Photo Processor filters as much noise as possible while ensuring that information is transferred quickly to the xD Picture Card. A third important element is, of course, the lens. The Fujifilm FinePix F30 digital camera has a Fujinon lens with a triple optic zoom. Its range is equivalent to 36 - 108mm in a 35mm camera. This is a very satisfactory working range, suitable for both landscape and portrait. Together, the processor, sensor and lens form what is called Real Photo Technology.

The interior of the Fujifilm FinePix F30 digital compact camera is not the only thing to have been given a makeover. The outside has also been changed. The changes are subtle, the most important being the addition of a shutter speed and aperture priority. The large 2,5 inch screen on the back has remained the same as has the excellent, compact shape. We had the Fujifilm F30 at our office for a considerable period for the practical test. You can read our findings in the following Fujifilm FinePix F30 review.
