Photokina report
At the professional corner of the HP booth HP showed their solution for the professional photographer; the HP Designjet Z3100 photo printer. According to the spokesman of HP the company has listened to what professional photographers really want with these large format printers. The new HP Z3100 printer features a 12 ink solution, including 4 black inks for the highest possible quality. The 12 inks have been engineered to meet the needs of the most demanding professional photographers. Thanks to the HP Gloss Enhancer the HP Designjet Z3100 photo printer delivers excellent gloss uniformity across the whole tonal range, eliminating bronzing and enabling true black-and-white printing performed with 4 black inks to avoid metamerism.
The HP Designjet Z3100 comes with seven colours, four blacks and the HP Gloss Enhancer for glossy and semi-glossy media. These inks deliver an broad colour gamut for photographic and graphic arts applications, neutral tones and black optical density on matte fine art as well as glossty and semi-glossy photo papers.
According to HP, one of the biggest problems for graphics professionals is achieving colours right on target consistently print after print, across various media and from to printer. The HP Designjet Z3100 incorporates the first ever embedded HP spectrophotometer with i1 Colour Technology to make colours consistent in many ways. This redefinition and simplification of colour workflow saves professionals time and effort, and probably more important prevents costly surprises.
The embedded spectrophotometer makes professional colour workflows easy as it can be by automating media profiling. Mounted on the printhead carriage, it allows the printers to generate custom RGB ICC profiles for preferred media automatically in a couple of minutes.
