When you are offered the opportunity to work with the latest digital equipment on a location you will probably never visit again; you do not have to think twice! I am talking about an invitation from Canon Europe on a press trip to Kenya with a number of colleagues from the Netherlands and many other countries. No less than 80 journalists from Europe, among them four colleagues from the Netherlands, were flown to Nairobi, Kenya, at the invitation of Canon. In Nairobi small groups were formed to fly to the Borana ranch in the Laikipia area, north of Nairobi and situated by the Mount Kenya. The Canon EOS Safari trip coincided with 20 years of EOS; a unique memorable moment in the digital world!

Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III Test photos
During the EOS Safari 2007 in Kenya I had the opportunity to work with the new Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III professional digital SLR camera for a few days. This professional DSLR camera with high resolution of 21 Megapixel and image speed of 5 fps is equipped with a 35mm full format CMOS sensor and two DIGIC 3 processors for a maximum range of 56 large JPEG images (12 RAW). These first images made with the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III digital SLR camera were taken in practice during the EOS Safari 2007 trip.

I mainly used the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III DSLR in combination with the Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 L IS USM and the EF 16-35mmf/2.8L USM lenses. The 400mm range with a full format image sensor like the one on the Canon 1Ds Mark III is the minimum to capture animals the size of rhinos and lions in close-up. In combination with the built-in lens stabilizer, higher ISO, a fast shutter speed and the almost indispensable 'rice bag' for necessary support, it is a joy to shoot and the Canon 1Ds Mark III is undoubtedly fantastic to work with.

The test photos were taken with the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III digital SLR camera in the area on and around the Borana ranch in the Laikipia region, north of Nairobi, near the Mount Kenya. During the Canon EOS Safari 2007 event I had the opportunity to work with a sample for some period of time. Continue to view the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III Photo Gallery at LetsGoDigital.
