Compact cameras such as the Panasonic Lumix TZ5 are very much appreciated, and that is for a reason. A camera of this format, equipped with a 10x optical zoom is liked by the majority of the consumers. Of course it is very convenient to have a camera with this zoom range at hand. Life is all about ease! Besides the 10x zoom, the Panasonic TZ5 features optical image stabilisation which certainly improves the quality. And have I mentioned the 28mm wide angle yet?

Panasonic wide angle zoom lens
It keeps surprising me that an Electronics giant such as Panasonic, acknowledged the importance of wide angle in an early stadium, whilst photo giants such as Canon and Nikon seem to still be unaware of this fact. This is a strange phenomenon. In any case; the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 user is able to enjoy his wide angle zoom lens. The image stabilisation is a must and has really proven itself in the previous models. The main differences between the Panasonic TZ5 and its predecessor are few. The most important ones are; the possibility to capture 720P HD video and play it, an increase of the image resolution from 7 to 9 Megapixels, and an improved 3 inch LCD monitor with intelligent functionality and a resolution of 460,000 dots. In addition a 4th generation image processor; the Venus Engine IV is used.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 review
The optical lens quality of the Panasonic Lumix TZ5 is excellent. Although the extreme automation of the camera makes it difficult to measure the different apertures, we can only come to one conclusion: the optical zoom lens is of superb quality. In wide angle we measured a tiny distortion whilst the telephoto hardly suffers from any distortion. All in all, the Panasonic Lumix TZ5 provides us with many interesting new functions and enhanced features to test in practice. Despite the large interest in digital SLR cameras; it are the compact cameras that decide the sales numbers. And for a reason; a camera such as the Lumix TZ5 appeals tremendously to the consumer with its large optical range, compact size and light weight. An ideal camera to always carry with you.
