Fujifilm cameras at Photokina 2008

If anything became clear at the Photokina 2008, it was the fact that the compact camera desperately needs an innovative boost. There was hardly any news on the field of compact cameras at this world event, it were the advanced digital cameras, D-SLR cameras that surprised us and, of course, the Micro FourThirds System. Even Fujifilm didn’t have a lot to offer, whereas in the past they have always introduced some interesting compact cameras during events like the Photokina, except for a few a FinePix camera models that were introduced the beginning of August. The assortment looks too familiar; there is more of the same stuff.

Fujifilm Super CCD image sensor
One of the highlights for us was the announcement of Fujifilm's new Super CCD image sensor. This new sensor should be able to achieve the best result possible from the following combination: high resolution, high sensitivity and large dynamic range. In the end, the Super CCD EXR should bring the solution for a compact camera to not suffer from image loss (compared to a DSLR). Perhaps this is Fujifilm's answer to the new Micro FourThirds System introduced by Panasonic and Olympus.

Fujifilm FinePix 3D camera
More news, perhaps only interesting for the Techies and Gadget freaks at this moment, is the Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D system. A 3D system consisting of a digital camera with two lenses/sensors and a print/display. Fujifilm already showed a working 3D digital camera (currently 6 megapixels) at which special features such as the two lenses/sensors and the special monitor stood out on the back. The monitor generates the light from two different angles, and a quick frequency switch (60fps) is carried out. This enables displaying and viewing 3D images without the need for accessories. Besides that, Fujifilm is planning to bring a digital photo frame into the market. The Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D system will become available in 2009.
