Photokina report
Canon did its utmost for the Photokina 2008 and entertained lavishly. It is clear, and I cannot but say, that the current assortment impresses and is quite extensive. From the entry-level PowerShot compact camera up to the newest full frame EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR, everything could be found in the Canon booth. Unlike many other competing brands, Canon was able to attract many visitors with their compact camera line. And for a reason. Canon's new series of compact cameras is different, innovating and a true sign of Canon's power and daring to take the compact camera market seriously, offering sufficient possibilities for innovations.
Canon PowerShot camera models
The most striking models are the PowerShot SX1 IS, the PowerShot G10 and also the PowerShot E1 which aims at the female part of the population. The latter has a very distinguished design and comes in various trendy colors. In addition to the camera force, Canon showed a flood of series of printers. From office laser printers to compact photo printers, Canon has a genuine interest in the printer business and their assortment is the proof of it.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II
The Canon EOS 5D Mark II attracted a huge amount of attention. This is not surprising, considering we have had to wait a long time for this successor to the EOS 5D. If we only look at the housing, nothing seems to have changed, however, the internal design has been changed completely, with an entirely different DSLR as a result. Compared to the 5D, the weather proof ability has considerably improved, even including the hot shoe. With the introduction of the EOS 5D Mark II and a shifting of the market for full frame DSLR cameras (as for price and model), it is clear that Canon aims at a larger target group than it did three years ago with the EOS 5D. Take a look at the so-called CA (Creative Auto) button alone; it is a button that lets you choose for the operation ease of a compact. This is an interesting development, for what will become of the Pro DSLR? Will there be a shifting to some sort of middle format?
Canon DSLR with video function
Something that might perhaps be considered as the biggest surprise of a DSLR in 2008 is the video mode. Besides the Nikon D90 (HD), the Canon EOS 5D Mark II is also able to capture Full HD quality video. So far never seen before and condemned by the traditional photographer, yet, available in a camera at this point. A DSLR with video capture function. However, today the DSLR is not replacing the HD camcorder, nor the other way around. The storage capacity of 4GB is a lot less than what the average HD camcorder offers, however; the two products are gradually growing towards each other with baby steps. The Canon EOS 5D Mark II is expected to become available in November of this year. See the full Canon photo gallery at LetsGoDigital.
