Olympus Mju 9010 camera review : Olympus Mju 9010’s compact design does not betray its optical zoom performance. That is precisely this mega zoom camera’s spearhead. It is small and light enough to put in your pocket and it is equipped with a large focal range with which you can achieve large distances. The format of the Olympus Mju 9010 has pretty much remained unchanged in comparison with its predecessor. Also the focal range with 10x optical zoom, equivalent to 28 - 280mm, has remained the same. Although, the competition is showing that they are even taking it a step further, and with 12x optical zoom (25-300 mm) is managing to get even more out of the compact design. Olympus has, on the other hand, held back a bit.

The Olympus Mju 9010 is in itself a pretty good camera. It is a camera with a large optical range with which you can photograph all-round in a relatively simple way, as the theory goes. Whoever is looking for a small format, lightweight camera, but doesn’t want to miss out on the zoom range, can find a camera from a number of manufacturers. Olympus is one of them, and the Olympus Mju 9010 is the most recent model from the Olympus assortment. If you compare the entire assortment, you will see big differences between the compact mega zoom cameras.

There are advanced mega zoom cameras that are aimed at the enthusiastic amateur as well as the beginner photographer. The Olympus Mju 9010 is only aimed at the beginner photographer, which brings some disadvantages with it. The experienced photographer will know to avoid the higher ISO settings due to the danger of image noise, but the inexperienced photographer will not be able to figure out why certain photos have so much noise. Wasn’t the camera, after all, in automatic mode, with double image stabilization?

It is exactly these technical shortcomings that the Olympus Mju 9010 has in certain parts. We can live with that, but some basic knowledge of photography is required for that. Don’t let that be the condition under which you will purchase the Olympus Mju 9010. The camera performs well in sufficient light, but for indoors and cloudy days, it is a bit less effective. Therefore we actually have to demote the Olympus Mju 9010 to a nice-weather-camera, and that is too bad, considering that it showed potential for more.
