Photokina report
Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10 digital camera review : Panasonic has had a lot of success with its TZ-series, and if it’s up to Panasonic, this success will last a little while longer. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10 is the newest digital camera in the TZ-series, this time with built-in GPS. Strangely enough, GPS is only slowly being included as a standard specification by the camera manufacturers. On a technical level, the integration of GPS in a digital camera is not exactly flawless. There are a few things which can disrupt the GPS signal, such as the LCD display and the image sensor, which means that there are a few ‘tricks’ necessary to avoid this problem.

Panasonic Lumix review
The sensor of the new Panasonic Lumix TZ10 digital camera has a resolution of 12.1 megapixels and a Leica 12x optical wide angle zoom lens (25-300 mm) makes all-round digital photography possible. The camera display has a large format of 3 inches and a high resolution of 460.000 dots, which makes for an excellent view of the display. There is no optical viewfinder, but generally you won’t miss it. The format is nice and compact, for a megazoom digital camera. While shooting, your surroundings won’t be aware of the fact that you can optically zoom in on subjects 12x, which is ideal to shoot spontaneously without being noticed.

Panasonic Lumix TZ10 review
The Panasonic Lumix TZ10 digital camera has had to allow a few generations to pass by, and that brings us to the fact that Panasonic has little left to improve with such successful models as the Lumix TZ7 and Lumix TZ5 cameras, both predecessors to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10. Panasonic did not escape increasing the amount of effective pixels, but for the consumer, the difference between 12 and 10 megapixels is negligible. It hasn’t done any harm, in any case, so we will turn a blind eye to the increase. The ingredients for a high-quality mega zoom digital camera were already available; it is now just up to Panasonic to polish away the small flaws of the previous Lumix camera models.

The image quality is excellent; it has a fine color reproduction with natural colors. The resolution is up to standard and it does not need to be increased as far as we are concerned. The ISO is a bit sticky at 800 ISO, and with the higher settings the image quality is affected, which we think is not worthy of the TZ10. We see the higher ISO values as an emergency, so that if there is a need for it, you can still take a photograph. The modernized optical image stabilizer performs well and although it is hard to see how much and in which aspect the stabilizer is actually better, in practice the images prove its effective value.
