Sony A55 test photos

Sony Alpha DSLR review - Photokina 2010 report - Prior to the Press event where Sony introduced their latest series of Alpha cameras I was able to shoot with the new Sony A55 camera. The Sony A55 is of most interest to us as this Alpha camera is packed with features that are the most recent and innovative ones. It happens that the Sony Alpha 55 is the first Alpha camera with Translucent Mirror technology. Such a technique gives the engineers great advantages like real-time video image preview via the electronic viewfinder or via the high resolution 3-inch display - in contrast with DSLR cameras where the raised mirror prevents light from reaching the optical viewfinder during video shooting.

Sony Alpha A580 review

Posted by: Dennis Hissink Tuesday 31st, August 2010

Review Photokina 2010 - There is an interesting development occurring in the Sony camera division. While last year we could only choose between Cybershot and Alpha DSLR cameras, the choices have been significantly extended with only two new types of cameras. First of all, of course the very compact NEX system cameras that are very quickly becoming a sales hit. Secondly, the Sony Alpha A55 and A33 cameras with Translucent Mirror technology, a new type of camera with interchangeable lens, but now with an electronic viewfinder and translucent, fixed mirror. In fact, it is no longer a real ‘reflex’. With the introduction of the Sony Alpha A580, the traditional DSLR is equipped with the most recent technology.

Sony Alpha A55 review

Posted by: Dennis Hissink Tuesday 31st, August 2010

Review Photokina 2010 - Sony is actually just a rookie in terms of DSLR cameras. Although they have vast experience, surging from their take-over of Konica Minolta, it was only a few years ago that the first Sony Alpha camera was brought out onto the market. With the introduction of the Sony Alpha A55, Sony seems to be making progress in leaps and bounds. The Sony Alpha A55 camera distinguishes itself from the competition with innovative techniques and different features with which Sony proves itself as a DSLR manufacturer. The Sony Alpha A55 is the first Alpha camera that is based on the so-called Translucent Mirror technique. This is in fact an old technique, modernized and given a facelift.

News Photokina 2010 - The Alpha family of interchangeable lens cameras from Sony grows with the compact, ultra-responsive new Sony A55. Sony’s first-ever digital camera to employ Translucent Mirror Technology showcases an innovative optical system that opens up dramatic new shooting possibilities. In contrast with conventional DSLR cameras, Translucent Mirror Technology uses a fixed, translucent mirror that ‘splits’ the optical pathway between the main image sensor and a separate phase-detection autofocus sensor. The new Sony A55 Single Lens Translucent mirror camera is available from September 2010 and will be on display at the Photokina 2010 show in Germany.

Nikon 55-300mm review

Posted by: Dennis Hissink Tuesday 31st, August 2010

Review Photokina 2010 - With the introduction of the Nikon D3100, Nikon has equipped an entry level SLR model with the latest technical touches once again. This amateur DSLR camera will be delivered with a kit lens, the AF-S DX 18-55 mm VR, and perhaps added to with a 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Nikkor lens. It is, however, expected that a new kit possibility will be given after the introduction of a new megazoom lens. The new Nikon AF-S Nikkor 55-300mm f/4-5.6G ED VR is a powerful standard zoom lens, especially designed for DSLR cameras with a DX-sensor, such as the Nikon D3100. Compared with 35mm cameras, the Nikon offers a range of 55-300mm in 82.5 - 450mm.
