The Nikon Coolpix S5100 digital camera lies in between the Nikon Coolpix S4000 and the Coolpix S6000, in terms of numbering. This also seems to be the case in terms of technical specifications. With 5x optical zoom and a range of 28-140 mm, connected to a CCD image sensor with an effective resolution of 12.2 Megapixels, the Nikon Coolpix S5100 compact camera fits nicely in between them. It is Nikon’s answer to the storm of relatively cheap entry-level cameras that are being offered by virtually every manufacturer on every street corner. It is difficult for a manufacturer to distinguish itself in this price segment. Nikon does this by equipping the digital camera with a new image processor.

About a year ago Nikon presented the Nikon D3000 DSLR, a 10.2 Megapixel digital SLR camera with several features that we also saw in the Nikon D90 and the D5000. With the introduction of the Nikon D3100, the successor to the Nikon D3000, Nikon again has an amateur SLR camera in its assortment with specifications and functions that are all up-to-date again. The resolution has increased quite a bit, from 10.2 to 14.2 Megapixels and the Nikon D3100 digital camera now also offers Full HD video. Of course the Nikon D3100 SLR camera offers Live View, and there are also new AF settings included. The Nikon D3100 is a digital SLR camera aimed at the amateur photographer. A DSLR camera that has user friendliness as a bonus.

Photokina 2010 Show - There is another Casio Exilim digital camera introduced in Japan only, the new Casio Exilim EX-FC160s. It seems that the Casio FC160s is an upgrade of the FC150 and especially aimed at the sports minded action photographer. Maybe that is also where the ‘s’ of FC160s stands for? The Casio Exilim FC160s digital camera features a 10.6 Megapixel backside-illuminated sensor and supports high speed shooting like capturing a magnificent ‘birdie’ of a golfer at 1000 fps. The new Casio EX-FC160 sports camera belongs to the High Speed cameras in the Exilim series and as a result, stands out from the masses. An interesting little compact camera, although we wonder how many consumers actually use such fast shooting features…

This article is based on some of the so-called 'leaks' on the internet and is therefore not confirmed. However, it seems pretty interesting to us, so here we go. Various Canon announcement dates are floating around. August 19 was the day of entry-level basic compact cameras , but we are all waiting (August 26?) for those advanced compact and EOS cameras. One of them would be the Canon PowerShot G12, a full feature packed advanced digital camera that would follow up the PowerShot G11 camera. The rumor is that the Canon PowerShot G12 is a 10 Megapixel camera with 5x optical wide angle zoom (28-140 mm). It looks like the Canon PowerShot G12 is an evolutionary upgrade to the G11 with updated features.
