Photokina 2010 News - Canon announces the latest addition to its L-series of professional lenses, the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM, designed to answer growing demand for a high performance zoom lens which offers outstanding mobility and versatility. The Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM offers a 4.3x telephoto zoom range of 70-300mm, with a variable aperture of f/4-5.6. The compact (143mm) design also features the build quality that photographers have come to expect from Canon. With its impressive focal range and travel-friendly size, the Canon EF 70-300mm lens is ideally suited to professionals and advanced amateur photographers wishing to capture portraits, nature and action shots in superb detail.
Canon strengthens its EF-S series of lenses with the launch of a versatile new model: the EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. With an equivalent focal length of 29-320mm, the lens offers an 11x zoom range - making it a powerful, lightweight alternative to carrying multiple lenses. The EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS is designed exclusively for use with EOS cameras featuring an EF-S lens mount - including the new EOS 50D, EOS 1000D, EOS 450D, and earlier models. The Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS features a 16 element, 12 group construction. This includes UD and aspherical lens elements, which minimise chromatic aberration and ensure crisp, corner-to-corner detail across the zoom range.
Since the launch of the EOS camera system Canon produced an impressive number of 30 million interchangeable EF lenses. Of course events like the Photokina are the perfect place to showcase the lens assortment. Since the digital SLR camera raise in popularity the market for lenses is booming again. The EF lens mount revolutionised SLR photography in 1987 by replacing mechanical links between camera and lens with electronic contacts and providing for an internal auto focus motor. Even with continued development and evolution of focus systems, Image Stabilizer technologies, lens element materials science, weather sealing and design, the EF mount remains consistent.
Canon continues its tradition of optical excellence with a new EF lens - the versatile EF70-200mm f/4L IS USM lens. The new Canon lens is a valuable addition to the EOS arsenal for professional wedding and portrait photographers as well as advanced amateurs - expanding the range of current Canon EF lenses to more than 60 selections. "The EF70-200mm f/4L IS USM lens delivers the legendary sharpness and clarity of the Canon 'L' series lenses in a compact and lightweight design that is easy to use for hand held photography, making it a versatile lens for any photographer," said Yukiaki Hashimoto, senior vice president and general manager of the consumer imaging group at Canon USA, Inc.
