At the Photokina 2006 there were not that many surprises in way of digital camera introductions. The last couple of years we have seen several big names disappearing from the digital imaging market or merged with other manufacturers. One well-known name in the world of photography is Agfa. It is therefore quite nice to see the rebirth of this brand with a new series of digital cameras.

Pentax digital camera concepts

At the Pentax booth the new Pentax K10D draw quit a lot of attention which is honestly not surprising. We believe Pentax has an interesting digital SLR that is able to conquer an impressive market share in the segment of 10 Megapixel digital SLR cameras. Although the Pentax K10 is their latest introduction, other products drew our attention. Pentax showcased some digital camera concepts which were quite interesting.

Sony Cybershot DSC T50 naked

Of course Sony was presented at the Photokina show, but actually did not had much news to unveil. The new Sony T50 was introduced in September 2006 and features a 1/2.5-inch 7.2 Megapixel Super HAD CCD image sensor. This little digital compact camera incorporates a bunch of gyro sensors to stabilize any camera shaking caused by photographing in dim lit conditions of with long shutter speeds and telephotographing.

Canon Digital IXUS 850 IS naked

The large Canon booth showcased their entire digital imaging solutions to the public. And it is impressive to see how one manufacturer like Canon is able to offer so many solutions to photographing, printing, scanning, storing, sharing, etc. Canon's series of digital cameras, especially their Digital IXUS line-up, is very popular. Some weeks ago we were invited to come to London where Canon celebrated ten years of IXUS. Imagine, ten years of IXUS (analogue and digital) resulted into 33 million sold Canon IXUS cameras.

Olympus E-400 captures history

Olympus introduced the Photokina visitor to a large and bright booth where Olympus showcased their complete line-up of digital imaging solutions. One of them is the brand new Olympus E400 digital SLR camera. This new FourThirds System camera will be available right after the Photokina and is developed to bring the consumer the ultimate compact digital SLR camera. The Olympus E-400 incorporates a 10 Megapixel CCD image sensor and is the most compact and light weight DSLR in the world.

Olympus 725 SW

To proof the audience their new Mju camera is able to discover the underwater world, Olympus set-up a water basin where visitors could actually test the waterproof capabilities of the new Olympus Mju 725 SW digital compact camera. With its own unique characteristic the Olympus 725SW lets you being part of the free water world, or at least around the water. Beside being waterproof the Olympus Mju 725SW is also shockproof up to 1.5 m. The Olympus Mju 725 SW digital camera was introduced late August and is now showcased at the Photokina 2006 where visitors are able to touch & try.

Sanyo Xacti DMX-CG6

At the Sanyo booth we were surprised to see the new Sanyo Xacti model that has just been release in Japan. We took some time to sort things out and manage to get an overview of the features of the new Sanyo Xacti DMX-CG6 digital compact camera. The Sanyo Xacti CA6 incorporates a richly detailed 6.37 Megapixel CCD and Sanyo's proprietary image-adaptive data processing technology. This ensures low noise in dark areas, as well as more beautiful realization of skin colors. A high-powered 5x optical zoom lens lets you get up close and personal with your subject, even more so if you pair it with the 12x digital zoom. In Europe the new Sanyo CG6 digital camera will be available next year.
