Photokina report
One of the surprises of the Photokina 2006 was Leica. And beside an interesting introduction of the compact camera series, and a digital SLR camera Leica unveiled their digital M camera; the Leica M8. The Leica M8 offers a resolution of 10.3 megapixels and incorporates a notably low-noise CCD image sensor has been rigorously optimized for the special features of the Leica M lens system. The special design of the viewfinder camera with no mirror box allows the typically compact and flat shape of the Leica M to be retained. The small focal length extension factor of 1.33 enables creative freedom even in digital Leica M Photography. We discussed the new Leica M8 with Michael Agel, Press + Public relations of Leica.
Leica D SUMMILUX 25mm ASPH lens
- Brand: Leica
- Subject: SLR Lenses
- Category: Fixed Focal Lenses
During our meeting with mister Suguru Takamatsu, Coordi-nator Marketing Team Overseas Sales & Marketing Group and Ichiro Kitao, Product Planning Manager, from Panasonic we had a little hands-on with the new Leica D SUMMILUX 25mm f1.4 ASPH lens. The new Leica lens incorporates a large total large total of 10 lens elements in 9 groups, including a large-diameter aspherical lens. The bright standard f/1.4 lens provides a superb high-quality optical performance. The large diameter front lens ensures sufficient peripheral light levels, and a large-diameter front aspherical lens reduces light degradation all the way to the lens periphery. The result is high resolution and absolutely minimum lens distortion.
Leica Tri-Elmar-M 16-21mm ASPH lens
- Brand: Leica
- Subject: SLR Lenses
- Category: Zoom Lenses
Leica Camera AG, Solms is exhibiting the new Leica Tri-Elmar-M 1:4/16-18-21 mm ASPH. at photokina in Cologne. The Leica Tri-Elmar-M 1:4/16-18-21 mm ASPH is the first Leica super-wide-angle lens with a 16 millimetre focal length for the Leica ranging viewfinder system. In conjunction with the two fixed focal lengths of 18 and 21 mm, it combines a total of three extremely wide-angle perspectives and is thus very well suited for highly demanding work such as architectural photography or reportage. The use of two aspherical lenses permits a notably compact design of the lens and ensures high imaging capability over the entire focal length and focussing range.
Leica Digilux 3
- Brand: Leica
- Subject: Digital Cameras
- Category: Digital Cameras
Leica Camera is introducing the new Leica Digilux 3 at Photokina in Cologne (September 26th to October 1st, 2006). The Leica Digilux 3 is the first purely digital Leica mirror reflex system camera with exchangeable lenses, thereby opening up a third variety of free-standing camera system under the Leica name. As the first model of the new Leica D system, the Leica Digilux 3 is fitted with a bayonet lens to the FourThirds Standard, the open systems standard for digital mirror reflex cameras. Together with the high-performance Leica D Vario–Elmarit 2.8-3.5/28-100 mm ASPH exchangeable lens, this offers the photographer many possibilities for composition of individual pictures.
Leica Elmarit-M 28mm ASPH lens
- Brand: Leica
- Subject: SLR Lenses
- Category: Fixed Focal Lenses
Leica Camera AG, Solms is exhibiting the new Leica Elmarit-M 1:2.8/28 mm ASPH. at photokina in Cologne. The Leica Elmarit-M 1:2.8/28 mm ASPH. adds a particularly compact wide-angle lens with high imaging capability to the palette of lenses for the Leica ranging viewfinder system. Thanks to the use of an ASPH.erical lens, the optical performance is once again significantly increased in comparison to preceding models. With a weight of only 180 grams, the Leica Elmarit-M 1:2.8/28 mm ASPH. is the lightest of all the Leica M lenses. The new wide-angle lens can be used both on Leica M analog camera models and also on the new digital Leica M8.
Leica D-Lux 3
- Brand: Leica
- Subject: Digital Cameras
- Category: Digital Cameras
Leica Camera is introducing the Leica D-Lux 3 at Photokina. The D-Lux 3 is a compact digital camera with outstandingly high-performance optics and a comprehensive range of settings. The camera offers 10 million pixels and many technical improvements compared to its predecessor, the Leica D-Lux 2. The high-performance Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 1:2.8-4.9/28-112 ASPH zoom lens on the Leica D-Lux 3 permits a wide range of focal lengths in small picture format, allowing creative scope in picture composition from wide-angle through to the telephoto range. The integral picture stabilizer gives the user protection against camera shake in all photography situations, even under difficult conditions.
Leica universal wide-angle viewfinder M
- Brand: Leica
- Subject: SLR Lenses
- Category: Viewfinder
Leica Camera AG, Solms is exhibiting the new Leica universal wide-angle viewfinder M at photokina in Cologne. The Leica universal wide-angle viewfinder M is a new accessory for the Leica ranging viewfinder system. The viewfinder permits an exact determination of the picture outline for Leica M Leica M lenses with focal lengths of 16, 18, 21, 24 and 28 mm and is thus the ideal companion to the new Leica Tri-Elmar-M 1:4/16-18-21 mm ASPH wide-angle lens. The Leica universal wide-angle viewfinder M can be used on the analog cameras Leica M7 and Leica MP and also on the digital Leica M8 with focal length extension facility. It is attached to the flash shoe of the respective camera.

Leica Camera is introducing the new Leica M8 at Photokina in Cologne (September 26, 2006 to October 1, 2006). It is the first digital camera to use the Leica viewfinder system. All the key characteristics of the analog Leica reporter’s camera such as the compact design, the exceptional picture quality in conjunction with the Leica M lenses and the unique picture composition using the Leica viewfinder have been seamlessly carried over into the digital world. This professional-standard digital camera “Made in Germany” uses an image sensor specially developed for the requirements of the Leica M system. Almost all Leica M system lenses made since 1954 are also suitable for digital photography, thanks to their high performance level.
