About a year ago Nikon presented the Nikon D3000 DSLR, a 10.2 Megapixel digital SLR camera with several features that we also saw in the Nikon D90 and the D5000. With the introduction of the Nikon D3100, the successor to the Nikon D3000, Nikon again has an amateur SLR camera in its assortment with specifications and functions that are all up-to-date again. The resolution has increased quite a bit, from 10.2 to 14.2 Megapixels and the Nikon D3100 digital camera now also offers Full HD video. Of course the Nikon D3100 SLR camera offers Live View, and there are also new AF settings included. The Nikon D3100 is a digital SLR camera aimed at the amateur photographer. A DSLR camera that has user friendliness as a bonus.

A DSLR like the Nikon D90 offers a lot, or rather; a heck of a lot of possibilities for the amateur photographer. And the whole secret is to offer all these possibilities in a user-friendly way, since the user should not be overwhelmed. In practice, it turned out we did not have to worry about it. It's not without reason that the well-known green AUTO mode is found on the command dial. If one chooses to use it, no thoughts have to be made about any camera setting whatsoever.

As far as we can see, the first test samples offer high image quality. High ISO can be used with excellent results, through which Nikon continues its success that started with the introduction of the Nikon D3 and D300, and the Nikon D700 soon after. The user-friendliness for the Nikon user is superb as always and everything looks very familiar. These test photos have been taken with a full production model, meaning that this model is equivalent to the model that will be available to the consumer in September. The location of the pictures is the Amsterdam Zoo, called Artis, in the Netherlands.

When testing the Nikon Coolpix P5000 digital compact camera, I took it along when I visited a piece of Dutch railway history, the Railway museum in Utrecht. The Railway museum is located in the Maliebaan station and gives visitors a glimpse of the past. Most of the test pictures were taken inside the railway museum, including a large depot where diverse old trains stand established. The lighting conditions were full of contrast ; darkness between the trains with spots of sunlight from the roof here and there. Although the Nikon Coolpix P5000 compact camera has an optical image stabilizer, I had to use a high ISO regularly to achieve the desired shutter speed or aperture.

I have had the Nikon Coolpix S500 digital compact camera at our office for a long time, and I have made a lot of test shots during my visit the Arch National Park in the Unites States. The new Nikon CoolPix S500 digital camera was officially introduced at the start of 2007, just before the opening of the PMA Show in Las Vegas. The Nikon Coolpix S500 offers a resolution of 7.1 effective Megapixels, an advanced in-camera image processing and a 3x optical zoom lens (range of 35-105mm on 35mm camera). The Nikon CoolPix S500 powers up in a quick 0.8 seconds and has a practically imperceptible shutter release time lag of less than 0.005 seconds. Interesting specifications packed in a very compact and solid housing and most of all fully automatic operation.
