Many photographers dream of a compact digital camera with a fine zoom range, including a true wide-angle, one that gives a high resolution and can also store images in RAW. Until recently this remained just a dream. But fortunately there is the opinionated Ricoh, who seems to make the dream come true. With the DIWA Gold Award rewarded GR Digital, Ricoh already has an exceptional camera with a fine wide-angle and RAW support. The Ricoh Caplio GX100 takes it a step further: more wide-angle, more pixels and an optical zoom including image stabilization. What more can a photographer ask for? We have tested the Ricoh Caplio GX100 in our test lab, to explore if the camera truly lives up to the expectations.

You can easily shoot clear photos with its renowned 28mm wide-angle zoom lens, 8 Megapixel resolution, and 3x optical zoom. Additionally the Ricoh Caplio 500SE has a high resistance to water, dust and shock and let you concentrate on the scene without worrying damaging the digital camera. Ricoh’s 28mm wide-angle zoom lens can capture larger areas than the 35mm lenses of conventional digital cameras. Ricoh Caplio R5

Ricoh Co., Ltd. (president and CEO: Masamitsu Sakurai) has announced the release of the new Caplio R5 digital camera featuring a 7.1x optical wide zoom lens (28-200 mm in 35 mm camera format), the highest zoom in the compact class (among compact digital cameras less than 150 g). Combining the Caplio R5’s Ricoh-original CCD-shift vibration correction method and brand new image processing engine greatly expands the range of shooting in low light areas producing high quality images at even higher ISO settings with low noise. The new Caplio R5 succeeds the standard setting Caplio R4 with wide angle / high-magnification zoom (open priced, launched March 17, 2006, featuring effective 6.04 megapixel CCD).
