Leica Tri-Elmar-M 16-21mm ASPH lens

Leica Camera AG, Solms is exhibiting the new Leica Tri-Elmar-M 1:4/16-18-21 mm ASPH. at photokina in Cologne. The Leica Tri-Elmar-M 1:4/16-18-21 mm ASPH is the first Leica super-wide-angle lens with a 16 millimetre focal length for the Leica ranging viewfinder system. In conjunction with the two fixed focal lengths of 18 and 21 mm, it combines a total of three extremely wide-angle perspectives and is thus very well suited for highly demanding work such as architectural photography or reportage. The use of two aspherical lenses permits a notably compact design of the lens and ensures high imaging capability over the entire focal length and focussing range.

Canon EF70-200mm f/4L IS USM lens

Sigma APO 50-150mm HSM lens

The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of the new Sigma APO 50-150mm F2.8 EX DC HSM lens. Specially designed for digital SLR cameras with an APS-C size image sensor, this large aperture F2.8 lens has a compact and lightweight construction of 76.3mm (3.0”) in diameter, 132.6mm (5.2”) in length and weighing just 780g (27.5oz) (Nikon Mount). The incorporation of the very latest optical technology gives optimum lens performance providing excellent correction for flare, ghosting and all types of aberrations. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. Four SLD Special Low Dispersion glass elements are used for utmost correction of chromatic aberrations.

Nikon 70-300mm AF-S VR Nikkor lens

Nikon announces the introduction of the AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED, a high-performance telephoto zoom lens that offers Nikon’s most advanced features such as Nikon Extra Low Dispersion (ED) glass, Silent Wave Motor (SWM) and enhanced Vibration Reduction (VRII), as well as optics perfected for use with both Nikon DX format digital and 35mm film SLR cameras. The Zoom-Nikkor lens offers 70-300mm (4.3x) zoom performance, and is suitable for various telephoto shooting opportunities in, for example, as sports, nature and wildlife photography. When used with a Nikon DX format digital SLR, the picture angle is equivalent to what would be experienced with a 105-450mm lens on a 35mm.

Tamron AF 18-200mm Di-II LD lens

Sigma lenses at Photokina

We have had the opportunity to meet Michihiro Yamaki, President of Sigma Corporation. During our meeting we were shown the latest lenses Sigma has announced just before the Photokina started. The new 18-125mm F3.5-5.6 DC for Four Thirds mount is exclusively designed for use with digital Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras and has a 1: 6.9 zoom ratio. A Special Low Dispersion (SLD) and two aspherical glass elements produce a top quality optical performance throughout the entire zoom range. The new Super Multi Layer lens coating, which is optimized for digital SLR cameras, gives superb colour rendition whilst cutting down flare and ghost.

The growth of the digital SLR and system camera market benefits the lens manufacturers. Due to the change in the market for SLR cameras - the growing popularity of system cameras - we see new developments and innovative lens designs coming up and showcased at the world’s biggest Imaging and Trade show - Photokina 2010. New lenses need to be developed for camera systems like Micro Four Thirds and the cameras from Sony and Samsung. Several lens road maps appeared already on the websites of the lens manufactures showing interesting new products. These new system cameras will change the lens market, in which way and in what time period is something we really want to know.
