News Photokina 2010 - The Alpha family of interchangeable lens cameras from Sony grows with the compact, ultra-responsive new Sony A55. Sony’s first-ever digital camera to employ Translucent Mirror Technology showcases an innovative optical system that opens up dramatic new shooting possibilities. In contrast with conventional DSLR cameras, Translucent Mirror Technology uses a fixed, translucent mirror that ‘splits’ the optical pathway between the main image sensor and a separate phase-detection autofocus sensor. The new Sony A55 Single Lens Translucent mirror camera is available from September 2010 and will be on display at the Photokina 2010 show in Germany.

Sony SLR lenses

Photokina 2010 News - Sony is expanding its already strong line-up of over 30 A-mount lenses with new models that will appeal to seasoned photographers and those new to digital SLR cameras alike. The Sony Distagon T* 24mm F2 ZA SSM (SAL24F20Z) features the acclaimed Carl Zeiss Distagon design and rounds out the existing Planar (SAL85F14Z) and Sonnar (SAL135F18Z) models also developed in conjunction with Carl Zeiss. It is intended to appeal to experienced photographers looking for a large-aperture wide-angle lens of real distinction. The Sony DT 35mm F1.8 SAM (SAL35F18) adds the important 35mm focal length to the ‘Easy Choice’ series. ‘Easy Choice’ is intended to provide great value, compact and lightweight lenses that are attractive to entry-level and advanced photographers.

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX5 review : Although its appearance doesn’t betray it, the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX5 is unique in its kind. In the first place, the Sony Cyber-Shot camera distinguishes itself with its image sensor. While 99% of compact cameras are equipped with a standard CCD sensor, the Sony Cyber-Shot camera is equipped with a so-called back-illuminated CMOS sensor. Additionally, this compact camera from Sony has a 10x optical zoom lens with a 25m wide angle, optical Steady Shot, AVCHD Full HD video (1920x1080 pixels) and the impressively performing Sweep Panorama function with which beautiful panorama photos can be made.
