Sony A350 underwater housing review

Posted by: Dennis Hissink Thursday 11th, December 2008

The Sony A350, put in the market by Sony, is a digital reflex camera for the advanced photographer. Professionals will probably find the speed of 2.5 frames per second too slow. However, underwater photography does not require extreme speed since you nearly always make use of flashes and you also have to wait for the flash batteries to recharge before the next shot is enabled. Sony uses Carl Zeiss lenses for the Sony A350. The Sony Alpha SLR camera is light with its 582 grams, as well as compact and has a pleasant hand-fit. The CCD sensor offers 14.2 effective megapixels.

Sony A900 review

Posted by: Dennis Hissink Wednesday 12th, November 2008

Some weeks before the Photokina 2008 kicked off, the beginning of September to be precise, Sony introduced its top model of the Alpha assortment: the Sony DSLR-A900. The Sony Alpha A900 features 24.6 megapixels of resolution, a dual BIONZ processor, 5 frames per second and a built-in SteadyShot module that make the A900 a serious candidate to demand its market share in a segment that is currently dominated by Nikon and Canon. During the Photokina event, the new Sony A900 attracted a fair amount of attention. Sony offered the possibility to experience working with an A900 body and lens, with a large choice of available ZEISS lenses, to actually feel how a racing monster like this works in practice.

Sony digital cameras at Photokina

Posted by: Dennis Hissink Saturday 4th, October 2008

If we speak of a camera manufacturer that is growing fast and conquering a large market share with a lot of marketing force, it has to be Sony playing the main role. In 2006 Sony launched its first DSLR under the own brand name; the Sony Alpha 100. One year later, the Sony Alpha 700 arrived, a camera for the middle segment. 2008 was a great break-through with no less than three new DSLR models, notably the A200, A300 and A350. During the PMA, at the beginning of 2008, Sony stirred up the fire by unveiling some information about the CMOS image sensor that was going to be used. The message was clear; with 24.6 Megapixels on a full frame sensor, 2008 should also be the year for Sony to launch a DSLR in the high end segment. And thus, the Sony DSLR-A900 was born.

Sony CyberShot W170 review

Posted by: Dennis Hissink Tuesday 9th, September 2008

The first quarter of a year tends to be the busiest period for most manufacturers, since many introductions are usually made at that specific time. In January, the first large consumer electronics show kicks off, the CES in Las Vegas; which generally forms the start of the first camera introductions. In 2008, the PMA was held right after the CES show, leading to a genuine flood of new compact and DSLR cameras. So did Sony, and the Sony Cybershot W170 belongs to the first series of this year. The Sony Cybershot W170 is a camera model of the W-series; models that aim at a straightforward operation, yet, are equipped with the latest innovative techniques.

Sony T300 review

Compact digital cameras like the Sony Cybershot DSC-T300 are made for their ease. Compact in size, as flat as possible as to not leave a bulge in your trouser or shirt pocket, and where possible as light weighted as can be. The compact size does not always apply to a compact camera, for example the Megazoom digital cameras, and these are therefore often called hybrid cameras. The Sony T300 compact camera settles for two out of three of these criteria, for its size is still rather considerable, namely some 179 grams (operable).
